What is threeyearphd.com?  Simply put, it is a website that shares my insights about finishing your PhD. As someone who finished his PhD in a record three years at Virginia Tech, I have gone through some challenges and have gained insights, which I want to share with you.

While this site is not about setting a time-limit for finishing one’s PhD, I firmly believe that the duration of time in a PhD doesn’t necessarily guarantee the quality of your experience or what you learn. You may potentially gain very important skills and connections if you stay longer, but finishing early can also help you get out there, try your skills, gain valuable teaching or research experience and be a productive scholar or a practitioner, depending on what you choose to do.

So, is it preposterous to say ‘I’ll finish a PhD in three years’? No. Is it ambitious? Yes. Is it do-able? Absolutely.
